YANGON, April 26 (Xinhua) -- Transport staff in Myanmar are to be taught English and Chinese aimed at facilitating communications with foreign passengers visiting the country, the local weekly Messenger News reported Tuesday.

The drivers and conductors, who work with highway buses, city taxis and city buses, will be asked to take up compulsory learning of the two languages.

The language course will be conducted by the Bandula Motor Transport in collaboration with the Institute of English Speaking, the report said.

Many foreigners are visiting Myanmar, a country with attractive scenery, opportunity for foreign investment and gem resources.

Myanmar's annual gems emporiums draw thousands of gem traders across the world especially from Asia region, adding to its foreign exchange income.

There are over 100 transport vehicles operating under the Bandula Motor Transport while 400 more buses are run by two other companies with over 700 Parami taxis.
